Set up in 1997, the architecture and design firm, concrete, has left its singular mark on the city of amsterdam. Its field of action now extends far beyond the country’s borders. We met the firm’s brash, audacious director, who was recently voted dutch architect of the year.

Less than an hour from Lisbon on a wine estate in a unique rural landscape surrounded by vineyards and next to a lake, L’and Vineyards is an exclusive country club with a Caudalie Vinothérapie (wine therapy) spa. The resort is located in the heart of Alentejo, Portugal’s least populous region, an area of rolling hills punctuated by picturesque villages with whitewashed houses. The low-lying building, characterised by its oblique lines, is a singular example of contemporary architecture. Inside the hotel, eucalyptus wood and Scandinavian-style furniture play a central role in the décor designed by the Brazilian Marcio Kogan.
